Career Development
Guided by Grace believes that in order for our future leaders to excel in their careers and consequently in life, they must be afforded greater opportunities to maximize their chances for success.
Population:
The Career Development classes are offered to community members ages 16 and older residing in East Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes.
Class Size:
10-15 participants per session
Length of Session:
GBG will offer a 10 week course that will focus on career development/enhancement. Each session will last up to two hours in duration or length.
Saturdays 1:00pm-3:00pm at Eden Park Library 5131 Greenwell Springs Road, Baton Rouge, LA
Fee:
Participants will not be assessed any fees for participation in the Career Development program.
Guided by Grace Career Development Program:
Week 1 and 2: Introduction and Assessment
The participants will have an overview of the Career Development model. Each participant will complete a Pre-Assessment that will assess the participant’s current knowledge and awareness of workforce development. The participants will also identify their areas of interests by completing a career interest survey.
Week 2 and 3: Choosing your path
The participant will research information on their chosen career or educational focus. This research will give the participants added knowledge of educational requirements, necessary level of training, salaries associated with this particular field, and other pertinent information. During these classes, participants will determine if they have the necessary skills-set and educational background that is required to achieve their goals. At the end of these sessions, the participants will have greater knowledge on what steps need to be taken in order to achieve their goals.
Week 4 and 5: Setting Goals and Action Planning
The participants will focus on setting goals and action plans. Each participant will be taught to develop a plan of action that will provide detailed steps necessary in reaching their identified career or educational goals for years one, three, and five.
Week 6 and 7: Resume’ Building and Job Applications
The participants will learn how to create a strong professional resume’. The participants will also learn how to accurately complete a job application.
Week 8 and 9: Interviewing
Participants will learn professional mannerisms, appropriate dress, and how to properly respond to interview questions. The participants will also participate in mock interviews. If additional training or educational requirements are needed, each participant will be connected to the appropriate community resource as they move forward towards reaching their educational and professional goals.
Week 10: Graduation
Each participant that attended each session with full participation will be acknowledged and commemorated for taking the first step in reaching their educational and career goals. This event will include a celebratory dinner and certificates of completion.
